Greg Zickau Appointed State CTO

05-26-2008 - Upon Kevin Iwersen's departure from the Department of Administration, Mike Gwartney, State CIO, appointed Greg Zickau as the new State Chief Technology Officer and Administrator of the Office of the CIO. Idaho Becomes Charter Member of the Idaho Regional Optical Network (IRON)

03-04-2008 - The ITRMC voted on February 27, 2008, in favor of the State of Idaho joining IRON as a charter associate. The Council also voted in support of the stipulation by the IDANET Steering Committee that the state representative take into account the needs for IDANET, education and public safety, as well as the goal of expanding rural broadband, while pursuing IRON goals.

Office of the CIO staff worked with ITRMC’s IDANET Steering Committee to make $50k in funds available to the CIO in order to join the governing body for IRON. IRON is postured to provide a tremendous benefit and infrastructure that can be used by state government agencies and education entities.

INL has invested a significant amount of dollars into this effort, which will prove to be a world-class network backbone throughout Idaho. The initiative also involves connecting Idaho to the National Lambda Rail (NLR). The most direct benefit of the state’s connection to the NLR will be facilitation of research and development opportunities for Idaho universities and the Idaho National Lab. There is also real potential for spurring economic growth in parts of rural Idaho.

Desktop / Laptop Standardization

02-19-2008 - The Office of the CIO, in collaboration with the Division of Purchasing, has finalized computer standards. Pricing requested from the PC vendors will be used in the next two weeks to finalize the business case proposal for desktop/laptop savings.
